After a long delay -- and many rebukes from faithful friends and family :) -- here's an update!
We had a wonderful first Christmas in our new home.
A pine tree from the property, with LED lights.
Roscoe showing some Christmas spirit.
The stockings were hung from the mantle with care (on the most amazing stocking-hangers ever! guess who made those).
The stove kept us plenty warm! Back in July, when Bob from the stove shop stopped by to discuss with us where the stove would go, I (Sarah) suddenly became overwhelmed by the vision of Christmas stockings hanging on the mantle behind it. A dream come true!
This might sound strange, but the toilet is the best seat in the house for views out the window (in my opinion)! The flash doesn't give the scene justice, but it was a beautiful full moon illuminating the icicles on the north side of the home.
Christmasy weather arrived right on cue the weekend before Christmas! It stuck around for a couple of perfectly festive weeks before giving way to the January thaw.
(Not too bad a view, eh? I think I've seen postcards like our views!)
The hemlocks Mickey transplanted to the area east of the house.
Our bird feeders have not yet come into their own, despite our best advertising ("There's a feeder with loads of black oil sunflower seeds about a hundred meters to the north" every time we see birds out and about).
Mickey took this festive footage while I was safely stowed south at my folks' house.
Through it all, the home stayed warm and dry! Two winters ago, it was just the log walls. Last year, the outside looked quite similar, but the inside wasn't nearly as comfortable as it is this year!
Gerard became quite the indoor cat once it got cold.
He was as enthusiastic as he ever gets for Aunt Martha's Christmas gift!
That's pretty outrageously active for our dear little man.
Quite exhausting, all that exercise!
Yeah, he steals "my" rocker every chance he gets. You should see the looks he gives me if I try to reclaim my spot!
Not too shabby! Merry Christmas!
